How should I decide which plastic surgeon I should use?

There are a number of things to consider when choosing a plastic surgeon. The Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons provides an excellent list of considerations here: https://www.plasticsurgery.ca/choose.php

In addition to the items found on this list, it is also recommended that your surgeon have multiple tools at his or her disposal. If a plastic surgeon is not also a specialist in injectable and non-surgical treatments, they may not think to recommend them though those treatments might be the best option for a client. For example, in certain cases, Dr. Nikolis uses dermal fillers to great effect instead of performing a minor rhinoplasty (nose job) or recommends CoolSculpting, where appropriate, instead of liposuction.

How does a Consultation Work?

Your consultation is conducted personally with Dr. Nikolis. Dr. Nikolis will ask exploratory questions to fully understand your concerns and goals. He will review your relevant medical history and share his personal assessment and offer options that work for you.

He will describe the possible treatment options and share his experience on each of them along with before and after photographs. The cost of the personal consultation is $125 and if a treatment is booked the same day, it is applied against the cost of the treatment.

What should I expect in terms of scarring and recovery?

Scarring and recovery do vary by individual. Any qualified plastic surgeon works closely with the client on the treatment to minimize any visible scarring. Dr. Nikolis can also include Vbeam treatment, which can further reduce the appearance of scars.

Surgical recovery can take several hours to several days depending on the client and treatment. Dr. Nikolis can review this in further detail during a consultation. All clients receive special concierge service and follow up after the surgery to ensure they are properly taken care of.

What is the difference between Botox and Dermal Filler?

Botox is a type of neuromuscular toxin. While it is the most widely recognized brand for this treatment, other brands include Dysport and Xeomin. These injectable treatments are used to soften overactive muscles and smooth wrinkles. Botox is also used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

Dermal Fillers are used to fill up wrinkles, add volume, and contour the face. Dermal fillers include Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Volift, Restylane, Perlane, Radiesse, and Modelis. Each one of these have specific properties for providing a desired result in the hands of an experienced practitioner.

Use of Botox and dermal filler is often combined, with Botox being used to soften fine lines around the forehead and crow’s feet area of the face while dermal fillers are used to add volume and contour.

What can I expect after my treatment?

Results for Botox begin to show a few days following treatment and develop gradually over the course of two weeks. Results for dermal filler are apparent immediately. With any injectable treatment, patients may experience temporary swelling, redness, or bruising though treatment by an experienced provider minimizes these side effects.

It is suggested that anyone preparing for a big event have his or her treatment at least one week ahead of time. We also suggest patients not have alcohol or medications that contain aspirin or NSAIDs which can thin the blood and cause pinpoint blue bruising. Patients can wear makeup immediately after treatment but should avoid heavy workouts for 24 hours.
